Annika Feign Supplemental Post #2

Truth of Dare: In Bed with Madonna was not only an insight into the behind the scenes of her life on tour, but also revealed how dedicated she was to her fans and their dedication to her. But sometimes a fans devotion goes a little too far.

This film reminded me of Madonna’s obsessed fan Robert Dewey Hoskins who broke into her house in 1996 and threatened to slit her throat if she didn’t marry him. While he was sentenced to 10 years in prison, Hoskins is another example of the negative side of stardom.

While stalkers are not synonymous to celebrities, they seem to create an unsolicited infatuation and attract larger numbers of these kinds of fans. Most stars who find themselves in this position resort to a legal approach to deal with them. But sometimes they are not so lucky. John Lennon is a famous example of what can happen when an overly attached fan does not get his way.

In this day and age with people’s interest into the stars lives, the line between real and fantasy has become blurred. LA capitalizes on this obsession, with tours showing here celebrities live, star spotting or going to celebrity centered events. But I has also given delusional fans all the tools necessary to track down their favorite stars and take their fandom a little too far.
