Annika Feign Supplementary #3

With Coachella happening these past two weekends, I always find it interesting that while the music is the main focus, the festival also becomes a place for celebrity spotting. While you may see articles on a musician’s performance, gossip sites flood with pictures of the latest celeb sighting. It is here where celebrity friendships are revealed or speculated, outfits are criticized or congratulated and social media springs up incognito pictures taken by fans.

This year, fashion was a main discussion. Who wore their Coachella attire best? What was the worst outfit? In particular, there was a large number of questions raised by Jaden Smith’s decision to wear a dress.

Unlike other celebrity gatherings, this is one of the few where fans and stars are intermixed. While stars might have access to the VIP sections or have body guards, for the most part, there is no physical division between them and fans. Everyone seems to conjugate for the music and atmosphere rather than a red carpet and barricades separating the common folk from the famous.
